Note 5 at Lu 15:22: The father did far more than the son asked. The son asked to be a hired servant, but his father restored him to full son-ship, replaced his rags with expensive clothing, and made a feast in his honor.

Our heavenly Father didn't just offer us a pardon from our sins either. He has made us new creatures (2Co 5:17), cleansed us from all sin, and made us joint-heirs with His Son, Jesus Christ (Ro 8:17). Many of us are living as hired servants, far below our privileges, thinking that that is humility. But our Father wants us to take advantage of all that is ours. God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His children (Ps 35:27).
