But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put [it] on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on [his] feet:
Note 5 at Lk. 15:22: The father did far more than the son asked. The son asked to be a hired servant, but his father restored him to full sonship, replaced his rags with expensive clothing, and made a feast in his honor.
Our heavenly Father didn't just offer us a pardon from our sins either. He has made us new creatures (2 Cor. 5:17), cleansed us from all sin, and made us joint-heirs with His Son Jesus Christ (Rom. 8:17). Many Christians are living far below their privileges as a hired servant, thinking that that is humility. But our Father wants us to take advantage of all that is ours. God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His children (Ps. 35:27).
