And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence.

Note 6 at Lk. 16:26: This verse once again illustrates the finality of our eternal destiny once we die. There is no second chance (see note 4 at Mk. 3:29, p. 128). We can only make our choice between heaven and hell in this life (2 Cor. 6:2).
