Then he took [unto him] the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
Note 3 at Lk. 18:31: For centuries, the Messiah's life, death, and resurrection had been prophesied in the Old Testament scriptures. Now, all things written by the prophets concerning Him are about to be fulfilled.
There are many Old Testament prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. Here are some of the major ones. He was (1) born of the seed of a woman (Gen. 3:15; Gal. 4:4); (2) descended from the tribe of Judah (Gen. 49:10; Lk. 3:33); (3) born in Bethlehem (Mic. 5:2; Mt. 2:1); (4) born of a virgin (Isa. 7:14; Mt. 1:18); (5) fled into Egypt (Hos. 11:1; Mt. 2:14); (6) ministered in Galilee (Isa. 9:1-2; Mt. 4:12-16); (7) was a prophet (Dt. 18:15; Jn. 6:14); (8) was rejected by the Jews (Isa. 53:3; Jn. 1:11); (9) was praised at His triumphant entry into Jerusalem (Zech. 9:9; Jn. 12:13-15); (10) was betrayed by a friend (Ps. 41:9; Mk. 14:10); (11) was sold for thirty pieces of silver (Zech. 11:12; Mt. 26:15); (12) was accused by false witnesses (Ps. 27:12; Mt. 26:60-61);
(13) kept silent when accused (Isa. 53:7; Mt. 26:62-63); (14) was smitten and spat upon (Isa. 50:6; Mk. 14:65); (15) was hated without a cause (Ps. 69:4; Jn. 15:23- 25); (16) suffered for our sins and sicknesses (Isa. 53:4-5; Mt. 8:16-17); (17) was crucified with sinners (Isa. 53:12; Mt. 27:38); (18) had lots cast for His clothes (Ps. 22:18; Jn. 19:24); (19) was given vinegar to drink (Ps. 69:21; Jn. 19:28-30); (20) was pierced in His side (Zech. 12:10; Jn. 19:34); (21) was buried with the rich (Isa. 53:9; Mt. 27:57- 60); (22) rose from the dead (Ps. 16:10; Lk. 24:38-40); and (23) ascended into heaven (Ps. 68:18; Lk. 24:50-51).
