Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things [which belong] unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
Note 3 at Lk. 19:42: This verse not only shows the compassion that Jesus had for those who rejected Him but it also shows that the Lord gives us the choice of life or death (Dt. 30:19). If the Jews would have received Him, they could have averted the desolation of Jerusalem. However, because they forsook their own mercies (Jon. 2:8), they suffered the complete destruction of Jerusalem.
