And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
Note 2 at Lk. 22:51: Luke is the only gospel writer to mention this miraculous healing of the servant's ear. This once again reflects his training as a physician (Col. 4:14) and illustrates that the Lord doesn't destroy our personalities and interests but rather conforms them to His will.
This is also the only recorded instance in scripture where an amputated part of the body was miraculously healed. It is not clear whether Jesus put this man's ear back on or whether He just healed the spot where the ear had been cut off. It would appear, since He touched his ear, that Malchus' ear was severed but not totally off. Therefore, it is probable that Jesus restored his ear perfectly, as it had been before.
