And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Note 1 at Lk. 23:56: The burial of Jesus was rushed because of the Sabbath day that began at sunset. Therefore, the women were not able to prepare the customary spices used for burial. This is why they were coming on the first day of the week with their spices to anoint His body (Mk. 16:1).
