And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem [about] threescore furlongs.
Note 1 at Lu 24:13: One of these two disciples was named Cleopas (see note 5 at Lu 24:18). There is a possibility that the other one was Simon Peter (see note 12 at Lu 24:34).
Note 2 at Lu 24:13: The exact location of Emmaus is not agreed on by scholars. Most believe that Emmaus corresponds to the present-day Qalunya northwest of Jerusalem. At any rate, the exact distance of Emmaus from Jerusalem is given (sixty furlongs), which is about 7.5 miles. This would make Emmaus just under a two-hour, normal walk from Jerusalem.
