And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
Note 9 at Lu 24:28: Jesus had done this with His disciples before (Mr 6:48). It is clear that He came to reveal Himself to these disciples, and that was not yet accomplished. So it was the Lord's desire to tarry with them longer, but the Lord comes only by invitation. They could have missed out on the complete blessing that the Lord had for them if they had not invited Him in.
