Mark 3:4
Next Verse

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Note 4 at Mk. 3:4: To meet the man's need would be to do good. To fail to do so would be evil; but we read that the Pharisees held their peace (Mk. 3:4). The Greek imperfect tense pictures them as persisting in silence. For them to answer correctly would be incriminating; of course it is not lawful to do evil, and to do good would be to heal the man.
