Mark 3:4
Next Verse

And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

Note 4 at Mr 3:4: To meet this man's need would have been to do good. To fail to do so would have been evil. But we read that the Pharisees held their peace (this verse). The Greek imperfect tense pictures them as persisting in silence. For them to answer correctly would have been incriminating; of course it is not lawful to do evil, and to do good would have been to heal the man.
