And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

Note 1 at Mk. 3:22: The scriptures refer to people who were leaving Jerusalem as going "down from Jerusalem" no matter what direction they were headed. This may seem strange to westerners who are used to saying "going up north" or "down south," but "down from Jerusalem" was in reference to the altitude of that city. Jerusalem was built upon four mountains (see note 1 at Jn. 5:1, p. 95), so nearly any place in the land of Israel was "down" from Jerusalem.
