Next Verse |
The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.
Note 3 at Mk. 7:26: Phoenicia was an area on the Mediterranean coast which is now occupied by modern Lebanon. In Jesus' time, its affairs were administrated by Syria--thus Syrian-Phoenicia. The region near Tyre and Sidon was about 40-50 miles northeast of the Sea of Galilee which would be a 2* to 3 day journey for Jesus and His disciples from the land of Gennesaret.
