Next Verse

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

Note 3 at Mk. 8:38: The one Greek work "epaischunomai" is translated "ashamed" twice in this verse. It is not speaking of total rejection from our Lord any more than our being ashamed of Him is speaking of total denial of Jesus or His gospel. It is simply stating that if we are embarrassed or fearful to be associated with Jesus or His teachings, He will also be ashamed of our conduct.

Although this is certainly not desirable, it should be understood that this is not speaking of Christ damning us for failure to be a witness. Peter was ashamed more than once (Mt. 26:24-75; Gal. 2:11-14) and yet he repented and was still mightily used of God.
