For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

Note 7 at Mk. 14:56: This was a very poor effort on the chief priests' part to try to fabricate a case against Jesus. They couldn't even get their lies straight. Certainly Jesus, who had confounded their plots against Him many times before, could have exposed their foolishness this time also if He had wanted to (see note 3 at Mt. 26:54, p. 452).
