And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

Note 6 at Mr 15:25: The Jews began counting time from sunrise (see note 3 at Joh 1:39). That means that the third hour spoken of here, when Jesus was crucified, was 9:00 a.m. according to our reckoning. After three hours of Jesus hanging on the cross, there was three hours of darkness until 3:00 p.m. (Mt 27:45, Mr 15:33, and Lu 23:44). At 3:00 p.m., Jesus cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost (Mt 27:46-50, Mr 15:34-37, and Lu 23:46) after six hours of agony on the cross.
