Matthew 5:4
Previous Verse
Matthew 5:4
Next Verse

Blessed [are] they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Note 5 at Mt. 5:4: Jesus could be referring to those who mourn because of their problems. Isaiah 61:1-3 definitely states that the Christ would comfort those who mourn (2 Cor. 1:3- 4). He could also be identifying the repentant person, as in 2 Corinthians 7:9-11 and James 4:9. Or He could be speaking to "all that mourn" (Isa. 61:2), which would include both of these groups.
