And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Note 21 at Mt. 5:41: This is making reference to the Roman military's practice of forced labor. The Roman law gave the military the authority to compel anyone to carry their loads for the distance of one Roman mile (a thousand paces). This is no doubt what we see in Matthew 27:32 and Mark 15:21.
