But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
Note 3 at Mt. 9:6: "Son of Man"-Gk.-"huios tou anthr*pos." This title occurs in Matthew 32 times, in Mark 15 times, in Luke 26 times, and in John 12 times. "Son of Man" is the title Christ used to identify Himself with humanity, just as the "Son of David" is distinctly His Jewish name and the "Son of God" His divine name. This term "Son of Man" transcends purely Jewish limitations and has application to the salvation of the entire human race (Lk. 19:10). Without being the Son of Man, Jesus would never have been able to shed His blood for our sins, or stand in judgment of this world (Jn. 5:27). Because of His humanity, He is also able to be a compassionate and faithful high priest (Heb. 2:17; 4:15).
