Matthew 12:4
Previous Verse
Matthew 12:4
Next Verse

How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

Note 2 at Mt. 12:4: Ahimelech the priest in 1 Samuel 21:1 said to David, "Why art thou alone and no man with thee?"; and yet Jesus refers to "they that were with him." In 1 Samuel 21:2, David mentioned having appointed his servants to some other place. Ahimelech understood David to be asking for bread for his servants also, as can be seen in verse 4. David appeared at the house of God alone but had servants who were traveling with him for which he was requesting bread also.
