And honour not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
Note 2 at Mt. 15:6: We can see from Jesus' application that the Old Testament command of "honour thy father and thy mother" (Ex. 20:12) meant monetary support as well as respect. This same point is made by the apostle Paul in 1 Timothy 5:8 when he said, "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel." Therefore, providing financially for parents in a time of need is part of honoring our father and mother.
