And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken [meat] that was left seven baskets full.
Note 1 at Mt. 15:37: The Greek word used for "baskets" here and in Mark 8:8 is "spuris" and means a large hamper. It is used in only five places. They are here, in the account of the feeding of the four thousand (Mt. 15:37; Mk. 8:8), in two references to the feeding of the four thousand (Mt. 16:10; Mk. 8:20), and in Acts 9:25. In Acts 9:25, this basket spoken of was large enough to hide Saul in as he was lowered down the city wall to escape the persecution of the Jews. This means these seven baskets (Gk.-"spuris") of food that were taken up from the feeding of the four thousand contained more food than the twelve baskets (Gk.-"kophinos"- a [small] basket) that were taken up after the feeding of the five thousand (Mt. 14:20; Mk. 6:43; Lk. 9:17; Jn. 6:13).
