Next Verse |
Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping [him], and desiring a certain thing of him.
Note 1 at Mt. 20:20: Matthew presents James' and John's mother as the actual petitioner; whereas Mark has James and John asking the question (Mk. 10:35). There is no contradiction here, for the three joined in making the petition and all were certainly, to some extent, responsible (Mt. 20:20,22).
Note 2 at Mt. 20:20: By comparing this verse with Matthew 27:56 and Mark 15:40, it can be derived that James' and John's mother was named Salome. She is only mentioned by name in scripture in Mark 15:40 and Mark 16:1.
