Note 2 at Mt. 23:2: Matthew 23 contains Jesus' public exposure of the scribes' and Pharisees' motives (vv. 1-7), a warning against being like them which was also addressed to the multitude (vv. 8-12), and then Jesus' rebuke and pronouncement of judgment directly to the scribes and Pharisees.
