Next Verse |
For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
Note 11 at Mt. 24:28: Many people are very offended that anyone would interpret the carcase in this verse as being Jesus and the eagles as being true believers. However, the context would seem to suggest that.
The point that has just been made is "don't let anyone deceive you about the coming of Christ, because you will not be able to miss it. Everyone will see the Lord coming just like lightning is visible to everyone." Then the Lord says that just like eagles are somehow always able to find a carcase, so His followers will be gathered unto Him.
The analogy that Jesus uses is very fitting. Just as eagles feed off of a carcase, so we must feed on Jesus (Jn. 6:47-58). A carcase speaks of death also which is the means that Jesus used to provide us with His life (Mt. 17:22-23; 20:18-19,28; Jn. 10:17-18; 12:23-24).
