Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
Note 1 at Mt. 26:36: "Gethsemane" is a Greek word meaning "an oil press." The meaning of this word conveys the idea that this was an olive yard or garden in which the oil was taken from olives by pressing or squeezing. This garden was located near Jerusalem at the foot of the Mount of Olives. Jesus often retired to this place with His disciples to pray (Mt. 26:36; Mk. 14:32; Lk. 22:39-40; Jn. 18:1-2).
