But he denied before [them] all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

Note 3 at Mt. 26:70: The conduct of Peter here is a dramatic contrast with his boldness on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:14-40; 4:8-12,19-20; 5:29-32), and once again illustrates the difference that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit makes.
