Previous Verse
Matthew 27:64
Next Verse

Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

Note 2 at Mt. 27:64: In the Jews' efforts to prevent anything from happening that would cause people to believe Jesus was resurrected, they gave us one of the most sure proofs of His resurrection. They sealed the tomb so it would be obvious if it had been opened (see note 4 at Mt. 27:66, below), and they obtained a guard of soldiers to protect it.

This removes all doubts that the followers of Jesus could have stolen away His body. Therefore, the enemies of Jesus, themselves, become a witness for all of history that Jesus literally rose from the dead.
