For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
Note 8 at Phil. 1:19: The word "salvation" was translated from the Greek word SOTERIA, which means "rescue or safety" (see ref. g at Rom. 1:16, p. 743). It can be referring to either physical or spiritual salvation. Therefore, some people have interpreted Paul's statements here to mean that Paul was predicting his release from jail. Yet in the very next verse, which is still the same sentence, Paul states that he doesn't know if the outcome of his imprisonment will be life or death. That would lead us to believe that Paul is speaking of his eternal salvation in this verse and not a temporal deliverance from prison.
The scriptures teach that there are rewards given to those who endure persecution for the gospel's sake (see note 6 at Mt. 10:42, p. 228). Paul is saying that he will be rewarded for his stand for the gospel and the impact he was making whether the listeners mocked him or emulated him.
