Philippians 2:10
Previous Verse
Philippians 2:10
Next Verse

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth;

Note 13 at Phil. 2:10: Every knee of men, angels, and demons will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. Those who have denied His existence will bow in worship. Those who have spent their lives rebelling at His authority will finally bow in submission. Every being from all ages will ultimately bow and worship Jesus.

If we bow our knee to His Lordship now, we will enjoy a wonderful life here, and an eternity in His blessings hereafter. Those who deny His rightful claim to the Lordship of their lives will suffer for it in this life as well as the next and will still have to bow their knee to His authority anyway. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose if one refuses to make Jesus his Lord.

Note 14 at Phil. 2:10: The King James Version has inserted the word "things" three times in verse 10. This word is in italics, which indicates that it is not included in the original Greek text. Most likely, the word "things" refers to the angels in heaven, men on earth, and demons, or residents of the underworld. The Today's English Version translates these verses, "And so, in honor of the name of Jesus, all beings in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will fall on their knees, and all will openly proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
