But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

Note 5 at Phil. 2:22: Timotheus had proved himself. Many people desire to have others trust them as Paul trusted Timotheus, but few are willing to earn that trust. Some even get upset if that trust is not extended towards them and they try to demand it. But faithful people are so busy being faithful, they never demand anything. If trust isn't given, they just work harder. Trust is a gift.
