Next Verse |
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Note 13 at Phil. 3:21: The human body is certainly one of God's greatest creations. Yet Paul speaks of it as a vile body. This has to be understood in a comparative sense and speaks volumes about how wonderful our glorified bodies will be (see note 5 at 1 Cor. 15:37, p. 963).
The Greek word translated "vile" is TAPEINOSIS, and the KJV translates it as "low estate" (Lk. 1:48), "humiliation" (Acts 8:33), "vile" (Phil. 3:21), and "made low" (Jas. 1:10). See note 2 at 1 Cor. 15:12, p. 957; note 6 at 1 Cor. 15:15, p. 958; note 7 at 1 Cor. 15:17, p. 958; note 18 at 1 Cor. 15:50, p. 965; note 22 at 1 Cor. 15:53, p. 966; and note 23 at 1 Cor. 15:53, p. 966.
Note 14 at Phil. 3:21: The transformation from this physical condition to our glorified bodies will be a huge difference, but the power of God is easily able to accomplish it. If the Lord can work that miracle, surely the healing of our bodies or the freedom from other bondages are no problem to the Lord.
