Philippians 4:10
Next Verse

But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

Note 1 at Phil. 4:10: Paul's conduct with the Corinthian church where he refused to receive personal offerings has been misinterpreted (1 Cor. 9:11-18). Some have said that he would not receive offerings from anyone he ministered to. However, that is not true. This verse makes it very clear that he received offerings from the Philippians, and in verse 16, Paul states that the Philippians had given unto him on at least two other occasions.

Paul's practice of not receiving personal offerings from the Corinthians was the exception and not the rule (see note 5 at 1 Cor. 9:6, p. 903; see note 5 at 1 Cor. 9:18, p. 907).

Note 2 at Phil. 4:10: What Paul meant by saying that the Philippians had been careful was that they had been desirous to send him another offering. However, because he had been in-transit from Caesarea to Rome for a year and the communications were much different then than they are now, the Philippians had been unable to locate him. Therefore, they had not had an opportunity to give as they desired to.
