Philippians 4:15 |
Next Verse |
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
Note 10 at Phil. 4:15: The TEV translates this verse, "You Philippians know very well that when I left Macedonia in the early days of preaching the Good News, you were the only church to help me; you were the only ones who shared my profits and losses."
Note 11 at Phil. 4:15: The word "communicated" in this verse was translated from the Greek word KOINONEO which means "to share with others" (Strong). It is akin to the word KOINONIA which was translated "fellowship" in Philippians 1:5 and meant "partnership" (see note 4 at Phil. 1:5, p. 1151). Paul is speaking of money.
Paul is saying that the Philippians were the only group that gave to him after he left that area. They sent offerings unto him twice when he was in Thessalonica. Their thoughtfulness of him and the gospel he was preaching endeared these Philippians to him and occasioned the writing of this letter (see INTRODUCTION TO PHILLIPIANS, p. 1148).
