Previous Verse
Romans 2:25
Next Verse

For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.

Audio commentary on this verse

Note 3 at Rom. 2:25: If a Jew could keep the law perfectly, then the Jewish covenant that was sealed with the sign of circumcision would give him an advantage over others. But that has never and can never happen. No one can keep the law, and the law was not given to provide a way to God (see note 2 at Mt. 19:17, p. 388). Therefore, because no Jew has ever kept the law perfectly, they are the same as uncircumcised in the sight of God.
