Next Verse

And not [rather], (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.

Audio commentary on this verse

Note 12 at Rom. 3:8: Paul preached the grace of God as no one else recorded in scripture (see note 2 at Acts 15:1, p. 659). This led many people to slander him and his teaching by accusing him of encouraging people to sin. This was totally untrue. The grace of God teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lust (Ti. 2:11-12). Here, Paul shows his total rejection of those allegations by saying that the damnation of those people is just. He also "raises the stakes" for anyone who wants to criticize those who proclaim the grace of God. According to Paul, they will be damned.
