For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath [whereof] to glory; but not before God.

Note 2 at Rom. 4:2: Our own good works will only allow us to boast if we're are comparing ourselves with other people (2 Cor. 10:12). However, in the sight of God, none of us have anything to brag about. We have all come short of the glory of God (see notes 5-6 at Rom. 3:23, p. 759).
