And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which [he had] being [yet] uncircumcised.

Note 5 at Rom. 4:12: Note that Abraham had faith before he had the action of circumcision. Many people have mistakenly thought that actions produce faith, but that's not so (see note 2 at Lk. 11:42, p. 303; see note 21 at Mt. 23:26, p. 450). Faith produces actions (see note 55 at Mt. 7:21, p. 139; see note 26 at Mt. 25:40, p. 468). Acting right doesn't make a person right, you have to be born again (see note 2 at Jn. 3:3, p. 92).
