Romans 7:5
Previous Verse
Romans 7:5
Next Verse

For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

Audio commentary on this verse

Note 8 at Rom. 7:5: A Christian is not in the flesh even though he walks after the flesh at times. There is a difference and Paul makes a major point in the difference between being in the flesh and after the flesh in chapter eight (see note at Rom. 8:9).

Note 9 at Rom. 7:5: Notice that the emotions or influences (see ref. t at this verse) of sin were by the law. The law actually made sin come alive in us (see note at v. 9).

Note 10 at Rom. 7:5: This is the same phrase that was used in the last part of verse four. In the same way that relationship with the old man produced death, now realizing our new relationship with Christ produces the fruit of holiness (see note 2 at Rom. 6:22, p. 784).
