Romans 8:24 |
Next Verse |
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Audio commentary on this verse
Note 12 at Rom. 8:24: Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith." Is there a contradiction between these two scriptures? Not at all. Putting faith in God's provision is what saves us, but hope is an important part of faith (see note 12 at Rom. 5:4, p. 770).
This verse makes it very clear that hope is not based on what is seen. Someone who says, "I have no reason to hope" doesn't understand what hope is. Hope comes directly from God (Rom. 15:13) through His Word (Rom. 15:4).
