If we understand God's judgment and mercy in the Old and New Testaments, then we can reconcile ourselves to a loving and gracious Father. It's important to understand the period of time prior to the Law when sin was not imputed, and what the purpose of the Law really was. The Law was given to show us our need for mercy from God.
