Many Christians are striving to become righteous when the truth is that they are already as righteous as they will ever be in their spirits. Righteousness is not a virtue to be earned but a gift to be received. We are as righteous and holy as Jesus is, in our new, born-again spirits. The rest of the Christian life is an appropriation of what we already have in our spirits.
