12/29/09 — "Not only has the Lord broken the chains of a thirty-year smoking addiction…"
At the Summer Family Bible Conference, you told us about a man who wanted to quit smoking cigarettes. He was told by his minister to smoke as many as he wanted but that each time he lit one up, he should say that he didn’t want to smoke cigarettes. He agreed and was delivered from the addiction. I was like, “Huh?” But I assumed the Holy Spirit prompted you to share that story.
For about three to four weeks, I would say, “I don’t like cigarette smoking, I don’t like smoking cigarettes, I hate cigarettes.” Then one night while my husband and I were watching you on television, I turned to him and said, “I’ve smoked my last cigarette tonight.”
Not only has the Lord broken the chains of a thirty-year smoking addiction, but He has also delivered me from a twenty-year caffeine addiction (I used to drink ten to twelve cups of coffee a day). Part of me wants to say I have been set free for two months, but my spirit tells me that’s a lie. I’ve been set free—period.
