Jeff and Autumn Nakkula Destiny Story
A Promise of Destiny
When God sends someone to Charis Bible College, it’s a promise of destiny. Jeff and Autumn found that to be true when they met each other through Charis.
Shortly after Jeff moved to Colorado and started school, the Lord began to show him His plan for him: “We had a class exercise to go ahead and pray in the Spirit and just listen to the Lord and write down what the Lord [was] speaking to you, and it was in that class where the Lord just really gave me a filmstrip of a whole bunch of neat things that would happen in my life. And at the very end, a really strong word [came]: ‘Autumn is the one. Be yourself.’”
Autumn, meanwhile, was getting a different, more short-term word from God: “One day the Television Department manager [Stephen Bransford] got up before the student body and said, ‘We need to take some volunteers.’ And the Holy Spirit just put like a big red arrow right over that guy and said, ‘Go to that man after school, and you need to volunteer.’ After a few weeks of volunteering, they let me loose with a camera by myself, which is a big deal. I got to film a praise and worship event.” Autumn continues, “And as I was coming in, I rounded the corner with the camera. . . . All of a sudden, the Lord just said to me that I was going to be fundraising for missionaries and ministries all over the world through video and newsletters and all different types of media. Once I heard that word, I had a purpose. I had a place, and I knew what my destiny was.”
But God also spoke to Jeff that he would be serving in ministry with one of his classmates, David Forgoston. This would turn out to be a divine connection for Jeff. He says, “I was standing next to David, and the Lord—real strong inside—said, ‘You’ll be helping this man, and you’ll just be a part of what he’s doing.’”
After Jeff and Autumn both graduated, they went separate ways. Jeff took a job at a dude ranch, and Autumn was brought on staff at Andrew Wommack Ministries. Even though more than two years had passed since Jeff had heard God tell him about Autumn, he knew that God always fulfills His promises right on time. Jeff says, “The only thing that really kept me strong—holding to the word that He gave me—was that I didn’t have to do anything, really. I just had to be myself.”
Then God began to work.
Autumn recalls the story of how she knew things were changing for her: “You know, just when things were so perfect in my mind—I had a great full-time job, and I was reaching the world through Andrew’s ministry—the Lord impressed upon me, ‘Just start praying in tongues.’ So, after a couple days of this, I was like, ‘Lord, I don’t know why You’re wanting me to pray in tongues this much. What am I praying out? What am I praying to You about?’ And He just said, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it. You’re just praying out your future. I’ll let you know later.’ So, the more I prayed in tongues, the more just dissatisfied that I got here in Colorado Springs and with my job. Then I heard Andrew’s teaching about holy dissatisfaction, and I thought, Maybe there’s a change coming up.”
The nature of the change would come through Autumn and Jeff’s mutual friend David. “I remember I was talking to David and Judith Forgoston one day,” Autumn says. “[David] just said that the Lord was telling [him] that God had somebody that was going to love me unconditionally, and at that moment, I knew, Jeff. Jeff was it. . . . Within one week of me giving my total surrender of my heart finally to the Lord, He told me I was going to marry Jeff.”
Before long, they were engaged and then married. But God had a destiny yet to fulfill for these newlyweds. He led them to join the Forgostons on the mission field of India to help them establish a Charis campus there. The Nakkulas bought their plane tickets while on their honeymoon!
In India, Jeff and Autumn created media for David and Judith and had it sent to the Forgostons’ partners. Jeff explains, “Andrew and even the television producer here at AWM watched it and really [were] excited about it.” Autumn adds, “[The Forgostons] had so many partners call them and write them and say, ‘Wow, we never understood what you were really doing until this video. We get all your newsletters, but now that we see it visually, we know what you’re doing.’”
The Nakkulas had no idea that the little video they made on the other side of the globe would open doors of opportunity for them in Colorado. When they returned to the States, Autumn visited the Television Department and heard from Stephen Bransford that he was trying to start the Third-Year Media School at Charis. The following winter, the Nakkulas received a phone call from Stephen. “[Stephen said], ‘This media school is happening. Would you be able to be directors of it?’” Autumn explains. It was a dream come true.
“We’re going to be the coaches during class time and bring people through projects and building videos for ministries, websites, and newsletters,” Jeff explains. “Looking back at what God spoke to me right at the beginning of the first year of Bible college, just a couple things out of that filmstrip [have] come to pass already. There’s still a lot more to come. You know, just when you think it couldn’t get any better, God opens up a new door and does amazing things in your life.”
“Now I’m able to take everything I’ve learned and share it with students at Charis Bible College,” Autumn adds. “It’s just amazing to see how I’m able to reproduce the things that they’ve poured into me. I’m able to pour into [students], and they’re able to expand and grow ministries all over the world.”
Your gifts make dreams come true. As a partner, you are supporting ministries all over the world. Thank you!
