Joseph and Eva Sederstrom Destiny Story
Going Where God Sends
Thanks to the partners of Andrew Wommack Ministries and Charis Bible College, we are making disciples who are going out and changing the world, disciples like Joseph and Eva. The Sederstroms, a Polish couple from Monument, Colorado, thought they would spend the rest of their lives retired and in their dream home.
“We had a house, and the house was really pretty,” Eva recalls. “This was our dream house. As we were driving to that house, there was kind of a hill we had to go through. Every time we would go on that hill, we could actually see the valley where our house was. We used to go over that hill and we would say, ‘That’s where the love begins. This is our little paradise.’”
While Joseph and Eva were enjoying what they thought would make them happy, God was working on His plan for their lives, a plan that would fulfill their hearts more than they could ever imagine.
Joseph recalls, “One day Eva was on the treadmill, exercising and flipping channels.” And Eva stopped on Andrew’s Gospel Truth program. At that time, Andrew was sharing from one of his most well-known teachings, The Believer’s Authority. Eva could hardly believe what she was hearing and asked Joseph to watch the program with her.
“I watched with her, and we were captivated by the topic,” Joseph says. “The next day, we watched Andrew again. Every day for about a week we were watching. And then we went to the web, and we found out that we could download teachings.”
Joseph and Eva bought iPods and listened to Andrew’s teachings up to eighteen hours a day! By soaking in the Word of God, their hearts underwent a transformation, but there was still a hunger in them. That hunger would lead this couple to attend Campus Days at Charis in 2009, where God would continue to reveal His plan for their lives.
“We had a chance to hear some other teachers,” Eva says. “And we knew when this was over that we needed to come back in September and start school. We didn’t come with big plans. We just were selfishly wanting to get some answers. We wanted to have knowledge of the Bible and have a relationship with God. So, it was very self-centered. But through the years, something changed.”
Eva continues, “We came up with so much Word in us, and we [had] all this love and knowledge. We [had] grown. We had to give it away.”
As Joseph and Eva sat under God’s Word, the appeal of retirement diminished beneath the desire to raise up disciples. Between their second and third school years, God began calling them to start a Charis campus in a place near to their hearts yet far from home.
“At the [Summer] Family Bible Conference, I was listening to Wendell [Parr] speak,” Joseph says. “Wendell was preaching out of Matthew 28 and Mark 16, and I only wrote one note: ‘GO.’ I knew immediately where we were supposed to go.”
“The Lord started talking to us and saying that we were going to go to Poland,” Eva recalls. “With a trembling heart I said, ‘Send us wherever you want to. We want to do things for you.’”
Not long after, as Joseph and Eva were driving over the same hill overlooking their dream house, they began to realize that their hearts were moving somewhere else. “The love wasn’t there,” Eva explains. “It was just a valley; it was just a house. And we said, you know, it doesn’t really matter. None of those things matter.”
The couple finished a third year in 2010. And in September of that year, they loaded their car, packed with books, clothes, and cooking supplies, onto a container to be shipped to Poland. They flew out the next day.
As soon as Joseph and Eva moved to Poland, they got straight to work with plans to open a Charis campus. Not having connections in the country, they weren’t sure where the students would come from, but they did know that God had called them and would be faithful to fulfill His plan for their lives.
“It was really a miracle that we had any students, to be honest with you. We did not have connections with churches, with people who wanted to sponsor us,” Eva says. “[But] the Lord was showing us step by step, step by step. He said, ‘I will bring you students.’ The very first year, we had almost thirty students.”
Joseph explains, “They came out of the woodwork. We were just amazed.”
Joseph and Eva continued to fulfill God’s calling of making disciples in Poland, which included translating Andrew’s books and the Charis curriculum into Polish. The fruit of their labor was evident at the Gospel Truth Rally of 2015, where Andrew taught at a venue so packed, he needed Charis Poland to run the prayer line. Andrew also spoke at the school’s graduation, with sixteen graduates in attendance.
Andrew’s heart for making disciples across the world is becoming a reality through people like Joseph and Eva. Their story is just one of the many that our friends and partners have made possible through the support of Andrew Wommack Ministries and Charis Bible College. Because of you, Poland is now being set ablaze with the truth of the finished work of Jesus. And a married couple from Monument, Colorado, having been transformed themselves, are fulfilling their destiny by transforming others.
