You Were Never Meant to Run on Empty
Have you ever had a powerful encounter with God, only to feel it slip away after a few days, weeks, or months? Itβs like you were on fire for God, but then the cares of life crept in, and the excitement dimmed. Iβve seen this happen to so many people. I remember ministering in Louisville, Kentucky, years ago. A woman came up to me after a service with tears in her eyes. She told me how much the teaching had transformed her life and how, for the first time, she really understood the love of God. But then she said, βI know this wonβt last. It may only be a week or a month, but Iβm just enjoying the love of God more than I ever have.β
Her words really grieved my heart because it doesnβt have to be that way. Yet for so many Christians, thatβs their experience. They think Godβs touch is something temporary, something they canβt sustain. Itβs like they believe theyβre a bucket with holes in it, and theyβre constantly leaking out everything God pours into them.
Brothers and sisters, if thatβs been your experience, I want you to know something: you donβt have to live like that. You donβt have to lose what God gives you and constantly need a fresh touch from Him. You can stay full of God, not just for a week or a month, but every day of your life!
From Glory to Glory, Not Pit to Pit When God touched my life on March 23, 1968, it turned my world upside down. I felt so full of His presence that I didnβt think it could get any better. And I can tell you, more than fifty years later, that love and revelation are stronger in my life now than they were back then. I havenβt lost it. In fact, itβs grown. This is how the Christian life is meant to be. Second Corinthians 3:18 says weβre supposed to go from glory to gloryβnot from pit to pit. But sad to say, most Christians live on a roller coaster. They experience highs and lows that make their walk with God feel inconsistent. Thatβs not what God intended. Isaiah 40:4 says that the valleys would be exalted and the mountains and hills made low. If you bring the valleys up and the mountains down, it should be smooth sailing. Iβm not saying that weβll never have problems. Iβve had terrible things happen to me. But theyβve never diminished the revelation of Godβs love for me. Instead, that truth has become even more real and powerful in my life. The Gospel: Nearly Too Good to Be True It all starts with understanding the Gospel. When I say βGospel,β Iβm talking about the nearly-too-good-to-be-true news that Jesus took your sin, gave you His righteousness, and made you right with God. Itβs the news that God isnβt angry with you anymore. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. Romans 1:16β17 This isnβt something you experience once and then move on. Romans 1:16 calls the Gospel βthe power of God unto salvation.β That power is available to you every day, not just in the big moments, but in the quiet, everyday parts of life. When you understand and meditate on the goodness of God, it changes the way you think, live, and relate to Him. Religion often focuses on sin, judgment, and trying to scare people into repentance. But Romans 2:4 says itβs the goodness of God that leads people to repentance. When you truly understand how much God loves you, it changes everything. You stop living like a roller-coaster Christian, and you start walking in a consistent, growing relationship with Him. The Choice We Face In 1 Timothy 4:1β2, Paul warned that in the last days, many would depart from the faith, following deceptive spirits. The truth is, every decision we make is shaped by spiritual forces, and weβre either being drawn closer to God or deceived by the devil. If youβre not being led by Godβs truth, youβre being led by something elseβthereβs no middle ground. I know some people donβt like hearing that, but itβs what the Word says, and itβs the truth. The power lies in your choiceβwhether to surrender to Godβs guidance or give in to the enemyβs subtle influence. Godβs Inner GPS Your conscience is a gift from Godβa constant, internal compass guiding you toward truth. Romans 1:18-20; 2:14β15 and 1 Timothy 4:2 show that every person has this inner knowledge of God, whether they acknowledge it or not. And itβs only when they continually reject it that they move further away from God. Over time, this can lead to a hardened heart. Thatβs a dangerous place to be, where you can no longer feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit. But no one starts out that way. Thatβs why itβs so important to stay sensitive to the Lordβs voice. You Can Start Today If youβre living on that spiritual roller coaster or want to return to that inner conviction the Lord placed inside you, I want to help. Iβm giving away my introductory booklet entitled Four Keys to Staying Full of God for free because I believe itβs that important.
