7 Major Lies to Reject About Marriage

When Satan met Adam and Eve in the garden, his aim was not only to ruin their relationship with God but also to sow discord between them and not only did he want to ruin their relationship with God, he also wanted to destroy their relationship with each other. He wanted Adam and Eve to break up. Let’s learn about the 7 major lies to reject about marriage.

Recall the devil’s question to Eve: “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” (Gen. 3:1b, New King James Version). Well, when you study the Scriptures carefully, you realize that God never spoke that to her—He spoke it to Adam before Eve had even been created. So, when the devil said, “Has God really said?” he was really saying, “Are you sure you can trust what your husband told you? Are you certain that you can rely on him?

The devil has been intent on destroying marriage since the beginning!

In an era filled with lies, we should expect that the devil would go after the first institution that God created. It shouldn’t surprise us, because it’s the most fundamental institution of society. And if Satan can tear that apart, he can wreck a whole lot of stuff with it.

Here are seven lies prevalent in our culture today about family and marriage:

Lie #1: Marriage is just a piece of paper.

The Truth: Marriage is a sacred institution ordained by Almighty God, where a man leaves his parents to become one with his wife (Gen. 2:24 and Eph. 5:31). It’s the most important institution other than the church that God has created for mankind. And we as Christians should continue to uphold it.

Lie #2: Marriage is a system of oppression against women.

The Truth: There’s nothing more important than raising children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. It’s deeply fulfilling (Prov. 31:10–30).

Lie #3: It’s a sin to have children due to concerns about overpopulation.

The Truth: The entire eight billion global population could fit into Texas with a density of 30,000 people per square mile. This is lower than Manhattan’s current population density of 71,000 people per square mile. God is a master engineer. He created this planet for us, and He knew exactly what He was doing (Gen. 1–2). He didn’t make any mistakes. There’s plenty of space (Gen. 1:28)!

Lie #4: It’s a sin to have children in the face of climate change.

The Truth: The problem with the planet is not global warming; the problem is moral cooling. This earth is wounded by sin, and cataclysmic weather events will continue because of sin (Rom. 8:21–22).

Lie #5: Marriage and the traditional family unit is outdated. But if you do happen to get pregnant, you can abort, because it’s not a child.

The Truth: Every person reading this was once a developing fetus. At what point was it not you? It was always you at every stage of development (Ps. 139:16). Life and marriage are sacred!

Lie #6: Children don’t need both a mother and father to raise them.

The Truth: God’s plan involves one man and one woman in the holy bonds of matrimony to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, teaching them God’s will for family, sexuality, and overall conduct (Eph. 6:1–4).

Lie #7: There’s really no such thing as gender anyway.

The Truth: There are only two genders. God made them male and female (Gen. 1:27).

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The truth is, there are only two genders, and family stands as the most fundamental institution of society. Matrimony between a man and woman is the only legitimate form of marriage.

That’s it in the sight of God!
